Community Spotlight Series: Parksville Beach Festival

Our Community Spotlight Series lets you learn more about our locals and what they love about living, doing business, and contributing to our community in Parksville Qualicum Beach. This month, we spotlight the team around Cheryl Dill of the famous Parksville Beach Festival.

Cheryl Dill, president of the Parksville Beach Festival

Known to locals as Beachfest, this 5 ½ week-long family-oriented festival runs from July 12th to August 18th. Among many other highlights are the Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Competition & Exhibition, weekend concerts, daily buskers, an artisan market, and a special weekend evening light-up of the sculptures.

Thank you, Cheryl Dill, the President of the Parksville Beach Festival Society, for showing us around the legendary sand sculptures. We took that occasion to chat with her about life in Parksville Qualicum Beach and some of her favourite local spots.

What do you love about where you live?

"I love living in an area that is so accessible to our beautiful, natural surroundings. I love spending time enjoying our local natural resources. I also love how easy it is to engage in volunteerism and share in the process of giving back to our surrounding communities with others."

Where do you take family and friends when they visit?

"I always take visitors to enjoy Parksville Beach Festival events, shop at the Craig Street Market and the Old Country Market, explore the many local trails and waterfalls, and dine at local restaurants and pubs."

What other businesses should people see during their visit?

"Check out Fast Times Amusements for fun and family activities. For unique atmospheres, Rusted Rake Brewing, Arrowsmith Brewing, and Cuckoo’s Trattoria are delightful, and the food is delicious. Eat Fresh Market and Quality Foods Upstairs also feature distinctive experiences. Bradley’s on Jensen has delicious coffee and treats, too. There are so many options to explore!"

What experiences make up your perfect day in PQB?

"Starting the day with a morning run along the trails of the Englishman River. In the afternoon, kayak the waters around Rathtrevor Park, rest on the beach, shop for gifts, and dine locally. In the evening, I love experiencing the music concerts at Parksville Outdoor Theatre."
